CNG is basically obtained by compressing purified natural gas and is stored in cylinders with pressure ranging from 200 to 220 bar (2900 to 3200 psi).
Conversion of a vehicle such that it is able to operate on CNG entails modifications to the vehicle. In addition, CNG systems used in vehicles are subjected to very high pressure. LTA will be concerned if such conversions / modifications affect the safe operation of vehicles or endanger the vehicle occupants and other road users. To safeguard the interest of CNG vehicle users and others who may come in contact with CNG vehicles, we have therefore imposed requirements to ensure that such conversions/modifications comply with our vehicle construction and safety standards.
