With effect from 20 October 2008, CNG-driven vehicles are subjected to compulsory checks on the CNG system during the mandatory periodic vehicle inspections. The inspection items are as follows:
i) Check for the proper display of, and the condition of the CNG identification markings;
ii) Check for the proper display of, and the condition of the CNG conversion information marking;
iii) Check the condition and mounting of the CNG cylinder and other CNG system components; and
iv) Test for leakage from the CNG system using a gas detector.
Identification Marking Requirement
The identification markings serve to enable SCDF officers to identify CNG vehicles readily and execute appropriate evacuation/extrication procedures in emergency situations such as road accidents involving CNG vehicles. The CNG identification marking requirement is as follows:
The CNG identification marking must be weather resistance and the word 'CNG' must be located in the center of the marking.
Information Marking Requirement
The CNG system information marking enables verification during periodic vehicle inspections. Every CNG vehicle must be affixed with such marking displaying the following information:
i) the standard that the CNG kit has complied with;
ii) the name of the kit manufacturer and supplier or installer;
iii) date of installation;
iv) working pressure;
v) CNG cylinder serial number; and
vi) date of cylinder manufacture.
