Vehicle recall is a process initiated by the vehicle manufacturer to recall their vehicles with components that have been found to be defective for rectification, or to make improvements.
Since March 2003, motor dealers/importers are required to notify LTA and owners of the affected vehicles imported or sold by them, of any vehicle recall initiated by the vehicle manufacturers. They are also required to make arrangements for the required rectification works to be performed on the affected vehicles.
The Electronic Vehicle Recall SystemTo enhance the vehicle recall process, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched the Electronic Vehicle Recall System (EVRS) on 9 April 2007 for a 12-month trial. The EVRS has been developed in close consultation with the motor industry to incorporate features that will help facilitate and speed up work processes related to vehicle recalls.
The EVRS was developed at a cost of about $300,000 and is co-funded by
The Enterprise Challenge (TEC), which was set up under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Office to provide trial funding and test-beds for testing of innovative ideas that have the potential to bring about quantum leap improvements to the delivery of our Public Services. TEC worked closely with LTA towards the development of the EVRS and conducting of the pilot trial.
The EVRS leverages on internet technology to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of vehicle safety recalls. It also allows LTA to monitor closely the progress of the required rectifications on the affected vehicles.
In addition, the EVRS allows vehicle owners to check on the status of rectification works, if their vehicles are affected by a vehicle recall or if the defects in the vehicles have been rectified.
