Prescribed Fees To Replace A Vehicle Registration Number
An owner of an existing vehicle may use a vehicle registration number, which he has either retained or successfully bid for, to replace the registration number of his existing vehicle. The fees are as follows:
Retained Number
(a) No additional charge if the owner had previously paid $1,300 to retain his/her vehicle number; or
(b) $1,200 for using a retained number if the owner had paid $100 previously to retain the number
Bid Number
$300 (excluding GST) in addition to the bid amount that was paid.
Channel To Replace A Vehicle Registration Number
The procedures are as follows:
STEP 1 Complete the application form
R06 "Application to Replace A Vehicle Registration Number" for replacement of vehicle registration number.
STEP 2 Submit the following to LTA, 10 Sin Ming Drive, Level 1, to effect the replacement:
- Application form R06, duly completed;
- Road Tax Disc (Please ensure that the road tax has not expired).
- Valid approval letter for the retained/bid vehicle registration number; and
- Payment of the prescribed fees by cash, cheque or NETS
Change The Number Plates Of The Existing Vehicle
Upon the successful replacement of the vehicle registration number, the vehicle owner is required to change the physical number plates on the existing vehicle to display the newly assigned vehicle registration number within 3 calendar days. For vehicles registered under the Off-Peak / Revised Off-Peak / Weekend / Vintage (Restricted) / Classic Car Schemes, the vehicle owner must seal the new vehicle number plates at any of the LTA-authorised inspection centres within these 3 calendar days. Vehicle owners should also inform their insurance companies on the change of vehicle registration number for amendment of the insurance certificate.
It is an offence to keep or use the vehicle without displaying the correct vehicle registration number assigned to the vehicle, and/or fail to seal the vehicle number plates (if applicable) by the stipulated deadline. The penalty in the case of a first offence is a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months, and in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months.
Display The New Road Tax Disc
Upon the successful replacement of the vehicle registration number, LTA will issue the vehicle owner with a notification letter and a new Road Tax disc bearing the newly assigned vehicle registration number. The new Road Tax disc must be displayed on the vehicle windscreen within 5 working days.
Replace The Vehicle Registration Numbers Of Vehicles Registered Under The Off-Peak / Revised off-Peak / Weekend / Vintage (Restricted) / Classic Car Schemes
Before applying to replace their vehicle registration numbers, owners of vehicle registered under the above schemes must first send their vehicles to any of the LTA-authorised inspection centres to confirm that the number plate seals are intact. The seal inspection result is valid for 7 calendar days and the application to retain the vehicle registration number must be completed within these 7 calendar days. Application for vehicle number retention/replacement will not be allowed if there is no valid seal inspection pass record for the vehicle that is issued within the last 7 calendar days.
