With effect from 7 March 2005, the speed limit for light commercial vehicles will be raised from 60 kilometres per hour (km/h) to 70km/h.

Light commercial vehicles are defined as:
  • Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs); and
  • Small buses with a maximum laden weight not exceeding 3.5 tonnes and seating capacity of up to 15 passengers.

While the revised speed limit allows light commercial vehicles to travel at higher speeds, they are still required to comply with the speed limits on roads which are lower than 70km/h.

For safety reasons, LGVs transporting workers and small buses without passenger seat belts will continue to be subjected to the speed limit of 60km/h.
