The temporary transfer scheme was implemented for the purpose of used vehicle trade. It allows motor dealers to own used vehicles with payment of a nominal fee for six months.

Following pro-active engagement and consultation with the motor industry, the temporary ownership period was extended to nine months, since March 2007.

This extension helps dealers who require more time to find buyers without having to pay the requisite transfer fees.
