The Vehicle Inspection & Type Approval System (VITAS) is an electronic submission and approval system for vehicles. Since its launch on 7 Aug 2003, the number of applications has increased from about 13,000 in FY04/05 to about 27,000 in FY07/08.

Last upgraded in December 2007 in consultation with the motor industry, VITAS is a fully web-based system that allows users to submit applications through internet without the need to install any client software on their PCs. In addition to upgrading existing hardware (e.g. servers and hard-disks) for better performance, the workflow and processes have also been streamlined for
better efficiency. New applications, such as the transfer of Vehicle Approval Code (VAC) and vehicle accessories approval, have also been added to the upgraded VITAS.

Come August 2008, users could log in to VITAS via SingPass and EASY for better system security and user authentication.
