Everybody knows what a BMW is, yet not everybody knows what the three alphabets represent.

The brand synonymous with premium automotives is perhaps better represented through its acronym, which turns out to mean "Be My Wife".

I'm kidding.

But even that doth hold some truth for those who adore the marque. The good folks at BMW.SG can attest to that.
"Extremely passionate bunch of folks," admits Ryan Chua, head of the 5000-strong car club, unreservedly.

"There's no doubt that a lot of the owners and drivers in the portal treat their cars more like a secret lover, easily spending thousands of cash just on doing up their rides... Quite scary when the amount can basically foot for another car's down payment. Some owners are a little over-the-top, like one who waxes and washes his car every three days - religiously I might add, and they think about their cars more than anything else."

Now you'd believe me when I say BMW denotes "Be My Wife".
Club demographics showed that over 80 per cent of the members are older than Ryan. But at 23, the young man has already played club leader for four years. What's the secret to managing the flock?

"Age is not a barrier," assures Ryan.

"I had a good knowledge on how to start a forum and I learnt how to treat people who are much older than me. It took me about three years to reach this level. But most importantly, they believe in me."

With a highly proficient advisory team - of whom three are millionaires, the level-headed club leader believes that their combined experiences and expertise are invaluable in running the Club. Where those before him have founded, laid and left the groundwork for the formation of the Club in 2001, Ryan has certainly picked up and took off well in running the show.
Since taking over the reins, the young man has pumped in more than $10 000 on software and programming to set up the present club portal. The highly interactive website serves not only as a regular discussion forum, but also as a BMW online news platform. It hosts news feeds about the marque from around the globe, video streaming, photo galleries, contests and giveaways, and even produces weekly newsletters and holds annual dinner and dances for members.

On his investment, Ryan says, "It is purely out of passion for the BMW brand, the passion of bringing people together, meeting people, and getting people to interact."

BMW.SG has undeniably achieved its mission in bringing together owners and enthusiasts alike, and in forging ties amongst them through activities like driver trainings, technical talks, driving convoys, track days, and the regular gatherings. There's even a major fund raising for a charity organisation in the pipeline.
The above mentioned aside, there's still the question on what the acronym, BMW, really spells. Surely a diehard fan could answer that. And who better to ask than the leader of the pack?

Strictly no lifeline was my instruction.

"Darn, you're out to get me," asserts Ryan.

"Bayerische Motoren Werke. Off the top of my head and no references - cross my heart."

Spoken like a true blood bimmer alright.
