Mobile audiophiles have yet another reason to smile at now. Pioneer has rocked car enthusiasts once more with the launch of its Premier Reference Series (PRS) speakers. Adding to the handiworks of the world's largest speaker manufacturer are two packaged component speaker systems (TS-C171PRS and TS-C131PRS) and three component speakers (TS-M171PRS, TS-S101PRS and TS-T031PRS).
The ideal audio reproduction may be illusive but the PRS speakers could well be the closest one can get to car audio nirvana. Designed to be the true mobile audiophile pleaser, the eagerly-awaited speakers boast tone and pitch clarities to uncompromised accuracies.
Key features of the PRS speakers include two advanced speaker designs, namely the multi-layer cone and the micro fiber surround; as well as an aluminum center plug and a 28mm soft-dome tweeter.
The second generation multi-layer cone is made up of composite foamed Injected Molded Polypropylene (IMPP). Its makeup results in a reduction of flexing, thereby minimising distortions and undesirable harmonics. On the other hand, tough and high-density micro fiber surrounding the woofer enhances saxophone and piano sounds due to a higher internal loss characteristic than other materials. This also improves bass reproduction for maximum response. The aluminum center plug functions to enhance efficiency and imaging while increasing mid-bass and frequency response sensitivities. An improved 28mm soft-dome tweeter, made of polyester fiber, now includes a canceling magnet and a shorting ring to reduce stray magnetic energy for better diaphragm control. Designed to sit in an anti-resonant sealed chamber, the tweeter also ensures smoother mid to high frequency transition in the vocal range by lowering the frequency response. Price
