Japanese automaker Nissan has received approval from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to begin public road testing and leasing of its latest high-pressure, hydrogen-powered X-TRAIL fuel cell vehicle (FCV).

Powered by a Nissan-developed 60 per cent smaller but more powerful fuel cell stack from that of the previous model, this FCV has a top speed of 150km/h with a range of more than 370km. Nissan has also developed another X-Trail FCV with a cruising range of more than 500km and will begin testing in locations around the world with suitable hydrogen stations.
