A famous motorcycle expression goes something like this: "There are two kinds of bikers, those who have been in an accident, and those about to be".
So, what can we do as motorcyclists we do not get hurt? Here is what YOU do.

So, what can we do as motorcyclists we do not get hurt? Here is what YOU do.

  • Travel within the speed limit
  • Have motorcycle head lights on
  • Beware of other vehicles making unexpected move
  • Make sure keep a reasonable distance with vehicle in front. In a 50kph zone have at least 30m distance
  • IN RAINY WEATHER:
  • Find a shelter (ie under a bridge) and wait till the rain ease down.
  • Average speed of vehicles reduce significantly, causing congestions and long queue. Be patient and respect the traffic condition. Do not ride between the vehicles or keep changing lanes
  • People in the vehicle cannot see you well, as there is condensation on side windows & someone may open the door suddenly. Make sure you are seen by your head light on & high visibility clothing.
  • Take corners with ease & slow speed
  • Make sure tyre threads are adequate
  • Avoid riding in very wet area of a road.

Wearing a helmet or a heavy jacket could be an uncomfortable experience. Some riders could feel exhaustion, lack of concentration and dehydration. Take enough water and rest
When sun is fully shining, glare could occur as a reflection from building or vehicle windows or even road surface. Wearing appropriate sun glasses could reduce the risk of suffering from glare

Other problem, in extreme heat conditions:
  • The road surface softens so the tyre may stick or bits of bitumen wears off causing the motorcycle to slip.

  • Near the bus stop and other places with heavy vehicle movement the surface may be slippery due to oil spills.
