Public road facilities, such as bus shelters, footpaths, pedestrian overhead bridges and linkways, are shared by all road users.
LTA, National Parks Board (NParks) and National Environment Agency (NEA) maintain these facilities regularly. They also need the cooperation of the public to keep the road facilities in optimum condition for everyone's benefit.
Misuses of Road FacilitiesMisusing road facilities -- such as putting up advertisements indiscriminately, obstructing walkways and parking bicycles randomly -- causes inconvenience for other road users.
For example, bicycles chained along a linkway give pedestrians less space to walk. Objects such as tables, chairs or potted plants placed on walkways obstruct the passage of pedestrians.
Illegal advertisements and graffiti also mar our streetscape. Under the current legislation, any person found displaying advertisement on public facilities without written permission from the LTA, shall be liable to a fine up to $2,000.
Misusing emergency buttons installed at the escalators of pedestrian underpasses and pedestrian overhead bridges would also deprive other people from using the facility. The buttons are provided to ensure the safety of users during emergencies. Activating the emergency buttons when the escalators are working would cause the escalators to stop operating until they are re-set, hence bringing inconvenience to other users.
The inconsiderate use of road facilities may even create safety risks. Obstruction along a footpath, for instance, forces pedestrians to step onto the road. How You Can Help?Use the proper designated facilities. For example, park your bicycle at the bicycle stands next to MRT stations.
If you wish to put up advertisements, you can use the notice boards provided at designated bus shelters and covered linkways of MRT stations. There are currently 53 notice boards and 13 panels available islandwide. The advertisements posted can be of up to A4 size. They are removed on the 1st and 15th of each month during LTA's regular maintenance. You can help us maintain the quality of public road facilities by reporting any misuse through the LTA Customer Service Line at 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255 582) or sending your message through the Online Feedback.
