In order to help reduce the business and compliance costs of heavy vehicle owners, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have increased the vehicle gross weight limit.
The increase will free the many operational constraints for the transport and logistics industries. Business costs will be reduced as heavy goods vehicles may now carry more per trip. Operations will also be more flexible as the need to inform LTA is minimised. Heavy vehicle owners are now required to inform LTA of the movement of their vehicles under the following conditions. However, it is important for heavy vehicle owners to note that there are existing bridges with weight restrictions. Some of these bridges are being upgraded while the rest are on minor roads not used by heavy vehicles. Weight limits signs will be put up at these bridges and on the roads leading to these bridges.
