Phase 1 of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) was opened to traffic on 26 October 2007. The entire expressway will be opened on 20 September 2008. When this happens, residents staying in the northeast corridor will have a more direct route to the city centre. When fully completed, travel time from the northeast to the city will be cut by up to 25%.
