The Land Transport Authority is constructing a new vehicular interchange at PIE and Bedok North Avenue 3.

The contract, worth S$20.533 million, involves the construction of four slip roads to connect Bedok North Avenue 3 to the PIE, and the widening of Bedok North Avenue 3 (from Bedok Reservoir Road to Bedok North Road) from two lanes in each direction to three lanes in each direction.

The project started in March 2006 and is expected to complete in the third quarter of 2008.

Features

The completed road project will bring about these features:
  • Four slip roads connecting PIE and Bedok North Avenue 3
  • A dual 3-lane Bedok North Avenue 3
  • 2 new pedestrian overhead bridges along Bedok North Avenue 3
  • Upgraded commuter facilities including 5 new bus shelters

Benefits

When the interchange is completed, the new vehicular interchange will provide motorists with a direct access between the PIE and Bedok North Avenue 3. It provides convenience to residents living in the vicinity, parents sending their children to the nearby schools and visitors to Bedok Reservoir Park.

To cater for the increase in the traffic capacity, Bedok North Avenue 3 will be widened with additional lane. Commuters will also enjoy greater convenience with covered linkways to the new bus shelters.

Minimize impact on community

LTA has worked closely with the National Parks Board (NParks) to carry out advance planting along the four slip roads before the commencement of work. In addition, LTA will work closely with NParks in a new scheme to carry out advance tree planting along the side-table of the new slip roads before the existing trees are felled. In this way, the greenery around the area will be maintained even during the construction stage where possible.

During the construction period, inconvenience such as noise and dust may arise. LTA seeks your understanding in this matter and will work closely with the contractors to take the necessary measures to minimize any disruption.
