The Land Transport Authority is widening the existing road interchange at Braddell/ Thomson/ Lornie Road. It involves the widening of MacRitchie Viaduct, Braddell Road and the construction of a pair of dual two-lane vehicular viaducts from Braddell Road to join the widened MacRitchie Viaduct. When completed, it will allow motorists travelling along Braddell Road to bypass the 2 traffic light junctions at Braddell Road/ Thomson Road/ Lornie Road.

This is part of the overall road development to upgrade the Outer Ring Road System (ORRS). The ORRS is a high capacity road network that allows motorists to bypass the city as they travel across the island.

The projected started in November 2004 and was completed in December 2008.

The completed road project will bring about these features:

• A dual 2-lane vehicular viaduct connecting Braddell Road to Lornie Road
• Upgraded commuter facilities including 4 new bus shelters and 1 new pedestrian overhead bridge with covered walkways to the nearest bus shelter

When the viaduct is completed, there will be a direct link between Lornie Road and Braddell Road. The new viaduct will allow motorists to bypass two signalised traffic junctions, thereby reducing waiting time. Traffic flow at ground level will also improve. The construction of the viaduct and the widening of the MacRitchie Viaduct will increase the traffic capacity in the area. Commuters will also enjoy greater safety and convenience with the new bus shelters and pedestrian overhead bridge.

During the construction period, inconvenience such as noise and dust may arise. LTA seeks your understanding in this matter and will work closely with the contractors to take the necessary measures to minimise any disruption.

To facilitate the construction of the viaducts, there will be temporary traffic diversion along Braddell Road and a short stretch of Thomson Road. Certain works like beams launching have to be carried out at night for safety reasons. There will be temporary road closures to carry out such work.
