A traffic diversion exercise will be carried out along Cross Street and Upper Cross Street extending from Far East Building to Chinatown Point from Saturday, 22 March at 0800 hours till the end of June 2008 by LTA's contractor, Gammon Construction Limited.
The road diversion is to facilitate the design, construction and completion of Chinatown Station and its associated tunnels for Downtown Line Stage 1.
As LTA and Gammon accords safety as its top priority, the area in front of Hong Lim Complex and Chinatown Point has also been condoned off for use as a worksite to facilitate the construction of a support wall for the Chinatown station and its tunnels.
To reduce traffic congestions especially during peak hours, a lane-for-lane replacement has been provided, along with prominent signs to alert and guide all road users. Besides road signs and alerts, hoardings and water barriers will also be put up to cordon off the construction site from the open public area.
All road users are advised to take caution while travelling along the affected areas along Cross Street and Upper Cross Street.
LTA and Gammon will continue to work closely to minimise inconveniences for commuters and road users alike. We seek the understanding and patience of all road users during this traffic diversion exercise.
