An extra lane will be added in each direction of Paya Lebar, when LTA reinstates the road to its original alignment. The road was realigned to facilitate MRT Circle Line works.
The project of widening Paya Lebar/Upper Paya Lebar Road from Geylang Road to Kim Chuan Road has been awarded to Samwoh Asphalt Premix Pte Ltd.
Widening works at the stretch of road, from Kim Chuan Road to Jalan Afifi (near to Geylang Road), include converting the current dual three-lane carriageway to a dual four-lane carriageway. The works have commenced and are scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2008.
The widening at the rest of the stretch of Paya Lebar Road from the PIE junction to Geylang Road will be completed by end 2009, as Circle Line works there will continue for a longer period.
Upon completion, it will ease the current traffic congestion and will provide additional capacity for future heavier traffic flow in the area.
