These are safety bollards, and they can be found at bus stops. They have a strip of yellow retroreflective sheeting with black arrows at the top.
Their main function is to reduce the severity of the impact from errant vehicles. They also alert drivers to the presence of bus stops, especially during nighttime, and thus protect the commuters at the bus stops. Safety bollards are generally installed at bus stops along high speed roads. Exceptions are bus stops at bends and without bays. By February 2009, 1,970 bus stops have been provided with safety bollards so far and the Land Transport Authority has plans to install them at about 470 bus stops by 1st quarter 2010.
