Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) make our transportation system safer and more efficient.
There is a number of ITS operating in Singapore, which harness the power of technology and are becoming essential components within our transportation network.
Expressway Monitoring Advisory System (EMAS)
Monitors traffic along expressways, alerts motorists of traffic incidents ahead of them and ensures swift response to these incidents. Green Link Determining (GLIDE) System Monitors, adjusts and optimises green time along main roads in response to changing traffic demand. Junction Electronic Eyes (J-Eyes)
Monitors the traffic condition at major signalised junctions. Electronic Regulatory Signs (ERS) Displays prohibited turning movements during specific time periods. TrafficScan Uses taxis as probes on the road network to provide motorists with information on the traffic conditions island-wide. Signalised Pedestrian Crossing Facilitates time-sharing of road space between motorists and pedestrians. Parking Guidance System Provides real-time information on parking spaces availability of participating developments. Trial on Traffic Prediction Tool Predicts traffic volume and speed to manage traffic flow so as to minimise traffic congestion. Traffic Information Platform Enables motorists to receive real-time traffic information via navigation devices. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) CentreThe heart of these systems is the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Centre. It operates 24 hours every day, keeping track of traffic flow based on information gathered by the various ITS.
Once traffic incidents are detected, traffic controllers at the control centre will despatch the recovery crew and LTA Traffic Marshal immediately so that normal traffic flow can resume as soon as possible. The control centre also sends traffic updates regularly to motorists through various channels. Messages on electronic signboards along the expressways inform you of the traffic situation ahead. You can also find traffic updates in this website or receive traffic news from radio and television broadcasts. While you are on the road, if you experience heavy traffic flow or would like to report incidents such as vehicle breakdown or accidents, please contact the ITS Centre by calling 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255 582).
