LTA will be launching the Parking Guidance System (PGS) from 15 April 08 at the Marina Centre area to help reduce circulating traffic in the Marina Centre area.

LTA has started the installation, testing and commissioning of eight electronic information panels at locations leading into the Marina Centre area. Please refer to Annex A for the locations of these panels.

The PGS aims to encourage a more efficient use of existing parking facilities and to reduce the amount of parking search traffic in the vicinities.

These PGS will provide real time information on parking spaces availability at Suntec City, Marina Square, Millenia Singapore, The Esplanade and Raffles City, which are the major shopping establishments and offices located in the Marina Centre area.

Apart from providing parking spaces information, the electronic information panels can also be used to provide traffic advisory information to motorists driving into the area.

How the PGS Works

The PGS comprises a data collection system at the various car parks, a central computer system for processing the information and electronic signboards positioned at strategic locations to inform motorists of the number of parking lots available.

The system will collate information on parking lots availabilities from several shopping developments and display them on the electronic information panels along the roads leading to the area. With the information, motorists would be able to make an informed decision on which car park to use while driving into the area. This would hence reduce the incidence of vehicles circulating within the area looking for available parking spaces, and thus adding to the vehicular traffic.

"LTA constantly looks into different ways of improving the traffic flow on our limited and finite road space by leveraging on technology. We hope that with the Parking Guidance System, it would help to reduce the amount of circulating traffic, which will, in turn, lead to a more efficient use of our roads," said LTA Chief Executive, Mr Yam Ah Mee.
