The Green Link Determining System (GLIDE)
The Green Link Determining System (GLIDE) controls all traffic signals in Singapore. Wire sensors placed beneath the road’s surface collect data on vehicle flows, while pedestrians are sensed when they push the buttons at the pedestrian crossings. The GLIDE system uses this information to automatically adjust the traffic signals accordingly.

GLIDE operates in real-time and allocates green-time to favour the approach road with higher traffic volume at each junction. It also links adjacent traffic signals so as to allow vehicles to travel uninterrupted as much as possible through signalised junctions, creating a “green wave” for vehicles on major corridors.
